Meet Our Team

Jay Bulluck

Jay Bulluck leads Local Honey® Salon with over 15 years of experience and training throughout North America. He attended NC State University in Raleigh and then worked in the family business of apparel manufacturing. He used his solid background of color theory, pattern making & dyeing, and finishing of natural fibers to smoothly transition from fashion to hair design. After touring the US for two years as a platform artist and educator, he committed to remaining based in Greensboro, NC. Jay still managed to commute to New York once a month as a guest artist at Woodley & Bunny, in the über-hip Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn. With several seasons of New York Fashion Week under his belt, Jay and his team at Local Honey have more combined professional editorial and runway fashion hair experience than anyone else in the Triad. Local Honey continues to be voted Best Hair Salon and Best Barber Shop in Triad readers polls, and is a Top 200 salon in the US (Salon Today magazine). When he’s not at Local Honey, he can be found racing cars and motorcycles or spending time with his tiny pooch, Pixie.

Lauren Ladd

Creative Director

Her natural talent for cutting, styling and coloring has been enhanced by advanced education with Toni and Guy, Aveda, Keune, and Bumble and bumble. Additionally, she has been involved in educating and mentoring junior stylists.  Lauren excels in carefully listening to clients’ unique needs, and she uses her professional knowledge and talent to deliver a cut, color or style perfectly suited for each individual. She has a precise eye for detail which enables her to create styles that are both effortless and natural. Lauren truly enjoys specialty styling and airbrush make-up for any occasion.

Cat Brockway

Education Director

Cat’s passion for hair became apparent at a young age, and her grandmother inspired her pursuit of a career in the art of cosmetology. Cat focused her talents immediately after high school and spent the last seven years refining her skills. She received advanced training from Paul Mitchell, Bumble & bumble, Goldwell, Davines, KMS and Sebastian. Cat also enjoys working outside Local Honey to take on fashion based work. In addition to being a truly well-rounded salon stylist, Cat excels in the art of specialty hair design. She has worked with many established photographers for print campaigns and fashion shows, as well as costume designers for various theater productions. She is also a premier wedding and formal hair designer. She has an artistic eye and talent for creating a signature look in the salon, on set, or on your special day.

Kate Stringfellow

Kate has been thinking like a hairstylist for much of her life. This led to an innate ability to see the potential of each individual client. In pursuit of her craft, Kate graduated from the Aveda Institute in Chapel Hill in 2010. Kate brings to Local Honey a unique approach to hairdressing that blends her classical training with her edgy personal style. She specializes in creating both natural dimension and wearable on-trend color, and she enjoys sharing her extensive product knowledge so styles can be easily recreated at home. Kate creates versatile cuts that work well with different style and textures. She has expanded her education with advanced Aveda color theory, trend cutting, styling and product knowledge, Davines men’s haircutting, styling classes from Bumble and bumble and Sachajuan, and Keune Academy’s Masters of the Craft.

Beth Carlin

Beth took a unique path into the beauty industry. When she was in the Navy, she used to French braid girls’ hair to comply with uniform standards. It was there that she realized that a career in beauty was the next chapter of her life. Beth enjoys working with all types and textures of hair. She specializes in effortless haircuts for men and women and creating naturally dimensional color, customized for each client. Beth loves communicating with her clients to create the perfect look, and she enjoys teaching them everything from how to blow out their hair at home to exactly what products to use and why. Beth has had advanced Toni and Guy and Aveda cutting classes, extensive Aveda color and corrective color training, Bumble and bumble styling, and Davines cutting.

Stacy Bullock

With over 7 years experience in the salon industry, Stacy understands the importance of consultation. Her emphasis on communication leads her to excel in creating the desired style of each client. In her spare time, Stacy enjoys spending time with her husband and their little dude.

Kelly Madison

Kelly has always been interested in all that is beauty. After learning how to French braid as a child, she was braiding anyone’s hair she could get her hands on. Kelly studied advertising and graphic design, but quickly realized that she didn’t want to create art through a computer. Hairdressing became a more tactile expression for her art and design. Kelly wants every person to feel beautiful, and is fully committed to making that happen. She believes communication is the most important aspect in achieving the best look for every client. When Kelly isn’t at work, she enjoys time spent with family and friends, Netflix, baking and crafting.

Erin O'Brien

After several years in advertising and marketing, Erin recently made the jump to a second career in hair design. She has a passion for transformative cuts–think long locks to pixie crops! Inspired by her fellow stylists and interaction with clients, Erin loves the social and educational aspects of Local Honey. When she’s not at the salon, she enjoys time with her almost-teenaged daughter and husband, and checking out NC’s burgeoning winery and brewery scene.

AC Johns

Guest Artist

Anne-Christian is a Greensboro native who has always dreamed of being in the cosmetology industry. After attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to be a television news reporter, she landed a job as lead anchor, but began to question her career path. At 20, she changed direction and enrolled in cosmetology school. AC grew up admiring her mother’s professional makeup applications for over 30 years. This developed into a strong understanding of makeup and hair design. She worked on set for over three years, and then apprenticed under Jay Bulluck and the Local Honey team immediately after graduating school. When AC isn’t at the salon, you can find her singing and playing music with friends; or hanging out on the farm with her dogs, cats, chickens, horses and mini-pig, Hamlet.

Shaina Machlus

Guest Stylist

Shaina’s approach and passion for styling hair is two-fold. Serious skill, lines and geometry, chemistry and all the pride of being part of an ancient trade. Second, using the universality of hair as a means for social empowerment. The relationship she establishes with clients, and the impact hair has on personal identity and self esteem, is something Shaina relates with the purpose of impacting the community. Shaina has a degree in Biochemistry from Guilford College, and advanced training from Toni & Guy and Phyto Universe NYC. Shaina is the founder of the photo and film exhibition, The Hair Do Project and most recently spent August 2013 volunteering with The Trade Foundation teaching women in Cambodia the science of hair as a means of alternative income from the sex industry.
